Dear Laura Kate (5 Years, Pre-K Graduation, and Dance Recital)

Dear Laura Kate,

I remember when I was pregnant with you and having to learn the hard truth that you are not mine, but you belong to the Lord. And all five years of your life I have struggled to try and take you as mine instead of trusting you with Him. He is faithful to gracefully remind me that you belong to Him and that He is creating a beautiful work in you. So as the calendar pages turned and you turned five and I started thinking about you starting kindergarten and you growing up to be the queen of the world and my heart started beating fast and flashes of your sweet newborn cheeks flashed across my mind and memories of your first steps and sounds of your giggles and squeals of delight ran through my ears and the clock kept speeding by and tears rolled down my cheeks....and again the Lord's sweet voice pierced my heart and reminded me yet again: she's. mine. Oh yeah. You are His. And He made you. And He loves you far more than I could ever fathom. Oh. Yeah.

There are many things you are afraid of right now: hair dryers, fire alarms, hair brushing, new foods, automatic toilet flushers, spiders, the occasional house fly...pretty much anything new. My biggest prayers for you as you grow are that the Lord would grow you into a woman much like the Proverbs 31 woman. The Bible says that she was not afraid and that she laughed at the days to come. So my little  princess ballerina, I am praying that the Lord would miraculously transform your heart to fear nothing but Him.

- We will know how much you weigh and how tall you are in a couple weeks when we go for your 5 yr. well check
- You wear size 5T in clothes and size 9.5 in shoes.
- You still amazingly take a nap 50% of the time.
- You sleep 10-11 hours most nights
- You love to read and have started reading your first chapter books (yes, really)
- You love to play doctor and hospital
- You love to dance and sing
- One of your favorite things is to play outside
- You help mommy by feeding Fischer his breakfast in the morning
- Most of the time you like to play with Shepherd

You will always be my first baby and I am so thankful that the Lord saw fit to trust you to me and your daddy. You are so loved, little one. And I can't wait to laugh at the days to come with you!

Love,
Mommy

Fifth Birthday Party
For your fifth birthday, we had a rainbow art party. We invited a few friends over and Grammy and G-G came into town for the weekend. We made rainbow cakes in jars, rainbow fruit-kabobs, and rainbow flavored water. We painted on canvases and opened presents. It was so fun and you loved it!

Dear Fischer (9-10 Months)

Dear Fischer,

In the past couple weeks, you have officially become a mover and a shaker. You are "crawling", if that's what you want to call it, everywhere. It's more like a mix between a roll and a crawl. You have no interest in pulling up or standing at this point but you sure have figured out how to move very quickly at your roll-crawl. As I watched you explore the house today, I couldn't help but think, "This is it. This is when he starts moving and won't stop." Fischer Knox, I don't know where exactly you are going to go in life. I don't know where the Lord will take you and it doesn't matter to me as long you follow Him there. I'm asking Him to use you in mighty ways and to take you to places where he can use you to the utmost of His glory. So for today, you keep working on that crawling and soon we are going to have to figure out walking because there is coming a day when the Lord may have you walk onto an airplane to fly around the world to make His name famous or to walk into someone's bathroom to fix their plumbing and show them His love (if you do in fact become a plumber, I feel it is my duty to make sure you have good fitting pants and a belt...just say no to crack).

- At 9 months you weighed 22lbs 9oz (89%) and were 29.5 inches tall (89%)
- You wear size 5 diapers, 12 & 18 month clothes, and size 3 shoes
- You continue to sleep well as long as your brother doesn't wake you up (12-13 hours at night and 2, 2 hour naps)
- You have 2 teeth
- You finally figured out table food and now eat just about anything we put in front of you.
- You have learned to sip out of a sippy a little bit
- Growling is still your main means of communication but you do also say, "mama, dada, baba, and papapa"

I love you handsome boy. I will love you all the days of my life. You bring so much joy.

Love,
Mommy

A Change Has Come.... (Update)

Overall, our room transitions have gone very well! The hardest things have been when one of the boys wakes up and cries and wakes the other one up. This has happened several times but only one really bad night where it took more than 1 attempt to get them back down. Hopefully they are slowly getting used to the sound of each other. I do not put them together to nap usually. I keep Fischer in the pack n play in my room...this tends to work a little bit better.

LK has handled things fairly well. The first few days, she was extra clingy and emotional. She also had a few night terrors. This is all very common behavior for her anytime there is a big change.

So here are the pics of their "finished" rooms. I still have a few projects coming in the future.

I kept the wall up (yes anchored to the wall) to provide some privacy.

This is Shep's bed. We chose to move his big boy bed to the same place where his crib was. He trained very quickly on his big boy bed and has stayed in it every night/day.  His duvet I made from sewing two sheets together and I also added a plaid scarf to the top. Curtains were some I had in the linen closet.

I purchased the cardboard Letters at Joann's. And I repurposed the frames for the boys verses.

Fischer has adjusted very well to Shep's old crib. We moved his breathable bumpers over, as well as his rhino pillow on the floor that I had made for his nursery. I also made a quilt/duvet for him with extra fabric and sheets. It is folded under the toy basket.

Shepherd loves his big boy bed!

Fischer loves his big boy crib!

I love how the sasster's room turned out.
LK's bedding is from Target (thanks Grammy!)and I made the yarn wreath.

The chandelier was from Amazon. I recovered the glider with scrap fabric I had and the castle bookshelf is still my favorite baby gift I received when I was pregnant with LK.

The lampshade was in her first nursery (it was a Target purchase too, I believe)

The cube shelf is the same one we used for Fischer's nursery. The bins I already had in a different room from IKEA, and the baskets are from the dollar tree.

I spray painted a "lantern" I had pink and put a bird candle in it to make it look like a birdcage. The basket I have had for years and repurposed by turning it upside down and using it as a message board. The birds nest came from dollar tree.

The yellow bike is the one I painted for Shep's nursery back here

The Birdcage my mom found in an antique store for $10. I cleaned it (scruuuuubbbbeeeedd, and bleached as you should anything a bird has pooped on), and then spray painted it pink. The flower is actually a hair clip from last year's dance recital.

I made the bow holder using the frame from her gumball mosaic (which had seen its final days when they all started falling off) and crisscrossing ribbon on the back. The picture is the 23rd psalm that my aunt gave me and the jeweled letters were a gift from Grammy.

The Yarn wreath I made back here. The "headboard" was a favorite treasure/find from my Grandpaw's barn. It was actually my great-grandmother's dresser mirror frame and is somewhere around 90-100 years old. It still needs to be sealed.

"hugga-bunny" was a gift a friend made for LK a few years ago. I love her.
